கங்காள முர்த்தி

Gangadhara Murthy (கங்காதர மூர்த்தி) is a revered form of Lord Shiva associated with the river Ganges (Ganga). The term "Gangadhara" combines "Ganga" (the sacred river) and "Dhara" (meaning "holder" or "bearer"). Thus, Gangadhara Murthy refers to Shiva as the bearer of the Ganges.

ஒரு முறை சிவாலயத்துள் எரிந்து கொண்டிருந்த விளக்கின் திரியைத் தூண்டிப்பிரகாசமாக எரிய உபகாரம் செய்தது ஒரு எலி. எனவே அவ்வெலிக்கு திரிலோகமும் ஆட்சி செய்யும் அமைப்பை வழங்கினார் சிவபெருமான். அவ்வெலி மாவிலி(மகாபலி) மன்னன் என்ற என்ற பெயருடன் அசுரகுலத்தின் அசுரவேக வளர்ச்சியைக் கண்ட தேவர்குலம் மாவிலி மன்னனுடன் போரிட்டனர். போரில் அசுர குலம் ஜெயிக்கவே தேவர்குலம் பயந்து திருமாலிடம் முறையிட்டனர். திருமாலை மகனாக அடைய வேண்டி காசிப முனிவரின் மனைவியான திதி என்பவள் வரம் கேட்க, அதன்படியே அவர்களுடைய மகனாக வாமன அவதாரம் ஆகப்பிறந்தார்.

மாவிலி அசுரனாக இருந்தாலும் தானதர்மங்களிலும், யாகங்கள் இயற்றுவதிலும் சிறந்தவனாக விளங்கினான். இந்நிலையில் வாமனன் மாவிலி அரண்மனைக்குச் சென்று மூன்றடி மண் கேட்டார். வந்திருப்பது திருமாலே எனவே தானம்தர ஒப்புக்கொள்ள வேண்டாமென அசுரகுருவான சுக்கிராச்சாரியார் தடுத்தார். இருப்பினும் கேளாமல் மூன்றடி மண் தானம் தர ஒப்புக் கொண்டார். உடனே திரிவிக்கிரம அவதாரம் எடுத்த திருமால் ஓரடியால் பூலோகத்தையும், மற்றொரு அடியால் தேவலோகத்தையும், மூன்றாவது அடிக்கு இடமில்லையே என்றுக் கூற மாவிலி தன் சிரம்மேல் மூன்றாவது அடியை அளக்குமாறுக் கூறினான். அதன்படி அவன் சிரம் மீது கால்வைத்து அழுத்த அவன் பாதாள லோகத்தில் அமிழ்ந்தான்.

மாவிலியை அழித்த திருமால் மிக்க கர்வம் கொண்டு மனிதர்களையும், தேவர்களையும் வம்பிற்கிழுத்தார். இதனால் பதற்றமடைந்த தேவர்குலம் கையிலை மலைக்கு சென்று நந்திதேவரின் அனுமதியுடன் சிவபெருமானை சந்தித்து விவரம் கூறினர். சிவபெருமான் வாமனரை சந்தித்து அமைதி கொள்ள வேண்டினார் ஆனால் கர்வமடங்காத திருமாலுக்கு பாடம்புகட்ட எண்ணினார். தன் திருக்கை வச்சிரதண்டம் எடுத்து வாமனன் மார்பில் அடித்தார் வாமனன் நிலம் வீழ்ந்தார். உடன் அவனது தோலை உறித்து மேல் ஆடையாக்கி,முதுகெலும்பினை பிடுங்கி தண்டாக கையில் தரித்துக் கொண்டு தேவர் துயர் துடைத்தார். கர்வம் ஒழிந்த திருமால் சிவபெருமானிடம் வாமன அவதாரத்தின் நோக்கம் பற்றிச் சொல்லி மன்னிப்புக் கேட்டு வைகுண்டம் சென்றார். பின்னர் மாவிலி மன்னனும் மோட்சமடைந்தார். சிவபெருமான் வாமனரின் முதுகெலும்பை கையில் தண்டாக மாற்றிக் கொண்ட கோலமே கங்காள மூர்த்தி என்றழைக்கப்படுகிறது (கங்காளம் - எலும்பு).

சீர்காழியில் கோயில் கொண்டுள்ள சட்டைநாதர், பிரம்மபுரீஸ்வரர், தோணியப்பர் என்ற பெயரில் அழைக்கப்படுகின்றார். இறைவி பெயர் பெரியநாயகி திருநிலைநாயகியாகும். இங்குள்ள சுகாசனமூர்த்தியை வணங்கி அர்ச்சித்தால் வியாழன் தொடர்புடைய தோஷங்களும் தீரும். தொழில் வளர்ச்சி பெருகும். நல்ல நிர்வாகத்திறமை வெளிப்படும். இவருக்கு நந்தியவர்த்த அர்ச்சனையும், சித்திரான்ன நைவேத்தியமும் பௌர்ணமி சோம வாரங்களில் கொடுக்க கேது தோஷம் தீரும். குழந்தை பாக்கியம் உண்டாகும். மேலும் இங்குள்ள மூர்த்திக்கு தர்பை நீரால் அபிசேகம் செய்தால் யோக சித்தி கிடைக்கும்.
