Uruttirapasupati Nayanar is one of the 63 revered Nayanmars in Tamil Shaivism, celebrated for his profound devotion and dedication to Lord Shiva. His life and contributions are well-regarded in the Shaivite tradition for exemplifying true devotion and piety.

பல்வளம் செறிந்த சோழவள நாட்டிலே பூம்பொழிகள் மிகுந்துள்ள திருத்தலையூர் அமைந்திருந்தது. இவ்வூரில், எந்நேரமும், அந்தணர்களின் வேத பாராயணம் வானெட்ட ஒலித்த வண்ணமாகவே இருக்கும். இவர்கள் வளர்க்கும் வேள்வித் தீயின் பயனாய் மாதம் மும்மாரி பெய்யும்.

அந்த அளவிற்கு அருளுடைமையும், பொருளுடைமையும் ஓங்கிட அன்பும் அறனும் ‌சால்பும் குன்‌றாது குறையாது நிலை‌பெற்று விளங்கின. இத்தகைய சீரும், சிறப்புமிக்கத் திருத்தலையூரில் பசுபதியார் என்னும் ஓர் அந்தணர் இருந்தார். இவர் தமது மரபிற்கு ஏற்ப வேத சாஸ்திர, இதிகாச புராணங்களில் சிறந்த புலமை பெற்றிருந்தார்.

பசுபதியார் அருமறைப் பயனாகிய திருஉத்திரம் என்னும் திருமந்திரத்தை இடையறாமல் பக்தியுடனும், அன்புடனும் சொல்லிக் கொண்டேயிருப்பார். திரு அல்லது ஸ்ரீ என்பது திருமகளாகிய செல்வம், அழகு ஆகிய பொருள்களில் சொல்லப்படுவதால் எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீ ருத்திரன் அல்லது திருவுருத்தன் என்னும் திருநாமம் பெற்றார். ருத் என்றால் துன்பம் என்றும் திரன் என்றால் தீர்ப்பவன் என்றும் பொருள் கொள்ளப்படுவதால் எம்பெருமான் ருத்திரன் என்னும் திருநாமம் பெற்றார்.

உருத்திரராகிய சிவபெருமானுக்குரிய திருமந்திரம் உருத்திரமாகும். சிவபெருமானுக்கு உருத்திரம் கண்ணாகவும், பஞ்சாட்சரம் கண்மணியாகவும் விளங்கின. எம்பெருமானுடைய பெருமையைச் சொல்லும் இம்மந்திரமே வேதத்தின் மெய்ப்பொருளாகும். அருமறைப் பயனாகிய உருத்திரம் என்று சேக்கிழார் சுவாமிகளால் பாராட்டப் பெற்றுள்ள இத்திரு மந்திரத்ததையே தமது மூச்சாகவும், பேச்சாகவும் கொண்டு ஒழுகி வந்தார் பசுபதியார்.

இவர் மனத்தாலும் வாக்காலும் மெய்யாலும் சிவத்தொண்டு புரிந்து வந்தார். இவர் தினந்தோறும் தாமரைப் பொய்கையில் நீராடி கழுத்தளவு நீரில் நின்று கொண்டு தலைக்கு மேல் கை குவித்து உருத்திர மந்திரத்த‌ை ஓதுவார். இரவென்றும் பகலென்றும் பாராமல் எந்நேரமும் உருத்திரத்தைப் பாராயணம் செய்வதிலே தம் பொழுதெல்லாம் கழித்தார். இது காரணம் பற்றியே இவருக்கு உருத்திர பசுபதியார் என்னும் சிறப்புப் பெயர் ஏற்பட்டது.

உருத்திர பசுபதியின் பக்தியைப் பற்றி ஊரிலுள்ளோர் அனைவரும் புகழ்ந்து பேசிய வண்ணமாகவே இருப்பர். உருத்திர பசுபதியாரின் பக்தியின் பெருமை எம்பெருமானின் திருவுள்ளத்தை மகிழச் செய்கிறது. உருத்திரத்தின் பொருளான எம்பெருமான் திருவுள்ளம் கனிந்து, பசுபதியாருக்குப் பேரருள் புரிந்தார். உருத்திரபசுபதி நாயனார் இறைவனுடைய திருவடி அருகில் அரும்பேற்றைப் பெற்றார்.
