வடுக மூர்த்தி

சிவார்ச்சனையால் பலனடைந்த துந்துபி என்போனின் மகனான முண்டாசுரன். இவன் இளமையிலேயே சிவபெருமானை நோக்கி, ஊண், உறக்கமின்றி, வெயில், மழை, குளிரெனப் பாராமல், ஐம்புலனையும் அடக்கி சிவபெருமானை மட்டுமே நிந்தையில் கொண்டு தவம் செய்தான். அவனது தவத்தில் மெச்சிய சிவபெருமான் நான்முகன், திருமால் இருபுறம் வரவும், தும்புருநாதர் இசைபாடவும், பார்வதியுடன் இடப வாகனத்தில் எழுந்தருளினார் முண்டாசுரன் மகிழ்ந்தான், பின் யாராலும் அழிக்க வொண்ணாத வரம் கேட்டான். கேட்டபடி கொடுத்து மறைந்தார்.

அவ்வரத்தினால் தேவர்கள், சந்திர, சூரிய, குபேரன் என அனைவரையும் துன்புறுத்தினான். பின்னர் குபேர சொத்துக்கள் அத்தனையையும் கொண்டுசென்றான். அவனுடன் போர்புரிந்து தோற்றனர். எனவே நான்முகனை சரணடைந்தனர். நான்முகன் முண்டாசுரனை அழிக்கப் புறப்பட்டார். இரு படைக்கும் கடும் போர் நடைபெற்றது. நான்முகனால் அசுரனை வெற்றிக் கொள்ள முடியாத சூழ்நிலையில் நான்முகன் சிவபெருமானை வணங்கி ஐயனே ! எனது துயர் தீர உதவ வேண்டும். அசுரனை அழிக்க வேண்டும் என்று மனமுருக வேண்டினார். அவ்விண்ணப்பத்தைக் கேட்ட சிவபெருமான் தன்னிடமிருந்து தோற்றுவிக்கப்பட்ட வடுக மூர்த்தியை அனுப்பி முண்டாசுரனை வதம் செய்யச் சொன்னார்.

வடுகமூர்த்தியும் அவ்விடம் சென்று முண்டாசுரனை ஒரு நொடியில் வதம் செய்தார். இதனைக் கண்ட நான்முகன் மனம் மகிழ்ந்தார். தேவர்கள் பூமாரிப் பொழிந்து வடுகமூர்த்தியை வாழ்த்தினார். பின்னர் வடுகமூர்த்திஅனைவரையும் விடுவித்து அவரவர் இடத்தில் அமர்த்தி விட்டு சிவபெருமானிடம் சென்று ஐக்கியமானார். நான்முகனின் வேண்டுகோளிற்கேற்ப சிவபெருமான் முண்டாசுரனை அழிக்க எடுத்த முர்த்தமே வடுக மூர்த்தி யாகும். வடுகரை தரிசிக்க நாம் செல்லவேண்டிய தலம் பாண்டிக்கருகேயுள்ள வடுகூர் ஆகும்.

இங்குள்ள இறைவன் பெயர் வடுகநாதன், வடுகூர்நாதன் என்பதாகும். இறைவி பெயர் திரிபுரசுந்தரியாகும். (திருவாண்டார் கோயில் எனவும் இத்தலத்தை வணங்குவர்) இங்கு வாமதேவ தீர்த்தமும், வன்னிமரம் தலமரமாகவும் <உள்ளது. கார்த்திகை அஷ்டமியில் இங்கு பைரவர்க்கு விசேஷமாகும். ஏழரை சனியின் துன்பம் அகல சனிதோறும் வடுகர் முன்பமர்ந்து சகஸ்ரநாமம் சொல்ல வேண்டும். நாள்பட்ட வழக்குகள் வெற்றிபெற பூஜையுடன் தேனாபிசேகம் செய்து 9 முறை அர்ச்சனை செய்ய வேண்டும். ஞாயிறன்ணு வடுகருக்கு விபூதியபிசேகம் செய்யத் திருமணம் விரைவில் நடைபெறும். மேலும் வெண்தாமரை அர்ச்சனையும், சர்க்கரை பொங்கல் நைவேத்தியமும், புதன் தோறும் கொடுக்க நீள் ஆயுள் கிடைக்கும். ஆரோக்கியம் நிலவும்.
